Many times, I have heard people claim that Bible reading programs do not allow for the Spirit of God to lead us as we read. Says who? Last night, I was wrestling with God in prayer over my greatest lingering fear in street evangelism - the potential of physical harm. Not so much for my own sake, but for the sake of those who depend on me. During my reading using the Grant Horner Bible Reading System, I had finished after list 9 to pray, and was going to read fron list 10 (Acts) after prayer. So, praying about my lingering concern, I open to Acts 20 for my daily assigned reading for Acts and came across this passage:
"And now, behold, I am going to Jerusalem, constrained by the Spirit, not knowing what will happen to me there, except that the Holy Spirit testifies to me in every city that imprisonment and afflictions await me. But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God."
-Acts 20:22-24
Talk about perfect timing! So, what did I take away from this? I have to do what I have to do - preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ and trust God to be sovereign over whatever happens to me and what the consequences may bring to those around me. That is the only choice I can make. It does not make it easy, but it is what is necessary for obedience.
